Mucommune, LLC (Mucommune), an integrated R&D organization that is actively advancing a variety of novel technological platforms into clinical-stage products in female reproductive health and cancer, today announced the appointment of Matthijs Schoots as Vice President, Operations. Mr. Schoots reports to Sam Lai, Founder and interim Chief Executive Officer.

Mr. Schoots is responsible for portfolio management, strategic planning and day-to-day operations. He brings more than 25 years of experience in clinical operations and program management, much of it in vaccines and infectious disease. He joins Mucommune from Uvax Bio in Cary, North Carolina, where he served as Chief of Staff and Head of Strategic Planning. Previously, at PPD, he led Phase III influenza and RSV programs and directed vaccine operations strategy through the COVID-19 pandemic. He will hold a similar position at Inhalon Biopharma, Mucommune’s sister company that is advancing first-in-class inhaled antibody therapies for treating different acute respiratory infections.

“Matthijs joins Mucommune at an important point in our development,” said Sam Lai. “He brings operational excellence to the execution of multiple programs and strengthens our ability to deliver on the promise of harnessing biologics and drug delivery to enable better female reproductive health for millions of women, particularly as we prepare to enter the next stage of advancing our lead candidates into clinical development”

About Mucommune

Mucommune, LLC is UNC-spinoff that has transformed itself over the past several years into an integrated biotechnology R&D company that builds on nearly a decade of pioneering pharmaceutical research on mucosal immunotherapeutics and mucosal drug delivery platforms. Mucommune has advanced multiple assets into clinical development, and incubated technology platforms that have received over $120M to date in support of active clinical and preclinical development. Leveraging this strong scientific foundation, Mucommune previously spun off Inhalon Biopharma (inhaled treatments for various acute respiratory infections), and is actively advancing innovative products for women’s reproductive health, including biologics-based non-hormonal contraception, as well as a platform that enables direct engineering of immune cells in vivo, with the promise of not only greater efficacy and safety but also dramatically lower costs and ready access. Our mission is to translate innovative immunoengineering and drug-delivery approaches into transformative products that address significant unmet medical needs.
